The third quarter is the time of year when many companies are reviewing their compensation benchmarking peer groups. It also marks the start of the compensation year, as data from the peer group will provide the market backdrop for the new year pay decisions to be made several months later. Having a few discussions around peer group and benchmarking methodology and an early look at market results gives the committee time to understand, review and assess the market prior to approving pay decisions.
